In 1942, eight men began
to organize the Fairmont-Hahntown Volunteer Fire Company Number
4. At this time, the company was jointly associated with the
Larimer department until the company received its own charter
on July 15, 1944.
A 1929 Model A Ford called "Jigger" was the first
truck used and a building owned by Pete Peretto was the first
station. In 1944, a 1930 Cadillac fire truck was purchased.
A new building was erected in 1953 on the corner of Main and
Rose Streets in Hahntown through generous contributions and
the assistance of the Ladies auxiliary and a new addition was
built in 1957. This building also housed a 1963 Seagrave, 750
gallon engine, a 1950 Howe, 500 gallon engine, and a 1955 Jeep.
Membership holds approximately 100 men. While many of these
men are active firefighters, others are life members. |
